• 7–9 January each year in an Indian city, because Gandhi returned from S.Africa on 9th Jan. 
• Started from 2003. 
• Last year (2011), held in New Delhi with theme “Engaging the Global Indian”
• This year (2012) 10th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is held in Jaipur, Rajasthan with theme: "Global Indian - Inclusive Growth."

Highlight of Manmohan's speech

1. Pension and Life Insurance Fund: for overseas Indian workers. The scheme will assist overseas workers to voluntarily save for their return and resettlement and old age.
2. Voting rights for NRIs: government has issued notifications for registration of overseas electors under the Representation of People Act, 1950 
3. Citizenship Act amended to provide for an Overseas Indian Card which will be given to foreign spouses of such card holders as well. 
4. e-migrate project by Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs, that will provide end-to-end computerized solutions for all processes in the emigration system. 
5. Labour Mobility Partnership Agreements :to cover skilled workers, students, academics and professionals. Such Partnership agreements are being negotiated with The Netherlands, France, Australia and the European Union. 
6. Operation Safe Homecoming: to evacuate more than 16,000 people from the strife torn areas of Libya, through special flights, passenger and naval vessels.Similar evacuations were carried out in Egypt and Yemen on a lower scale.
